The Origin Story with Mohammed Majam Chairman of Padel 360 League & The Smasher
Founding the League:
The Smasher: Mohammed, let’s start at the beginning. How did the 360 Padel League originate, and what inspired its innovative approach?
Mohammed Majam: I was introduced to Padel in late 2022 by my nephew. As a racket and ball sports enthusiast, I was immediately drawn in. Within weeks, I organized tournaments with former cricket teammates. The initial tournament led to larger events, and within six months, I was hosting 40-50 player tournaments.
Initially, named Crescents Padel Club, after our cricket team, the events grew too large for ad-hoc management. Volunteers assisted, and after a successful tournament in November 2023, we rebranded to 360 Padel, suggested by Saf. It represented “3 sets, 6 games, 0 excuses” but evolved to symbolize inclusivity. After hosting large tournaments, including one with 176 players, I received requests to start a league.
Recognizing the existing leagues in Johannesburg, I aimed to create something different, drawing on my cricket administration experience to develop an IPL-style padel event.
